A new class called "Mathematics and Cultures" (MATH 3930 and MATH
5930) has been developed and is delivered completely online.  Dr.
Derek Webb, Math Professor at Bemidji State University created the
three credit course for mathematics educators interested in learning
new techniques for reaching their diverse learners through a study of
'ethnomathematics" (the teaching and learning of mathematics in
cultural contexts).

The class could be beneficial to advancing study in student's degree
programs, a component of your school's PLC, or simply for individual
teachers who are looking for additional approaches to help reach their
students.

It is hoped that teachers will leave this course having learned ways
to more effectively teach mathematics particularly when working with
students from minority populations and diverse cultures.
